Perception is Reality
I’m in Nashville, Tennessee this week negotiating a new partnership with a business that created a 437% return on investment in 15 months. They didn’t have a way to tell anyone how until yesterday.
The first thing most people do when they build a service business is to attack “the brand” first - they get themselves a logo designed, build a website, and print themselves some business cards.
Because we’re visual creatures, this feels like the highest leverage, most valuable exercise - it makes what we’re working on “real”, and that belief is a useful tool in persuading us to work harder on it. We can also share it with friends, family, and potential clients.
Even before we know what we’re doing.
Seeing is believing,
but belief is a neutral term.
People can believe you know exactly what you’re doing.
People can believe you have no idea what you’re doing.
Want to help people see what you mean?
Figure out what you mean before you show them anything.
Because they’ll always believe something.
